Choosing between a pizza oven and a BBQ

Why You Don’t Have to Choose Between a Pizza Oven and a BBQ

One of the most common questions we hear from customers planning an outdoor entertaining area is, “Should I get a pizza oven or a BBQ?”
Our answer is simple, like the young girl in the Old El Paso ad—why choose when you can have both?
While many people initially think they need to decide between the two, we find that a large number of Jalando Pizza Ovens customers end up including both in their outdoor kitchens. Rather than competing with each other, a pizza oven and a BBQ each bring something unique to the way you cook and entertain.
A BBQ is perfect for quick weeknight meals, steaks, sausages, seafood and vegetables. A wood-fired pizza oven, on the other hand, offers a completely different cooking experience. Beyond incredible authentic pizzas, you can cook slow-roasted meats, baked bread, desserts, casseroles and vegetables infused with that unmistakable wood-fired flavour.
Together, they create a versatile outdoor kitchen that can handle almost any meal or occasion.
Designing the Ultimate Outdoor Kitchen
When you’re planning a new outdoor entertaining space, it’s easy to assume you’ll need to sacrifice one appliance to make room for another. However, many of our customers have found that with thoughtful planning, both a pizza oven and a BBQ fit beautifully into the overall design.
Adam and Anne Schmidt are a great example. They chose a JA70 Tiled wood-fired pizza oven as part of their outdoor entertaining area while also keeping their BBQ. Having both means they can cook different foods at the same time, making family gatherings and entertaining friends even easier. The BBQ handles the grilling while the pizza oven creates restaurant-quality pizzas and delicious wood-fired dishes.
Joe and Maria Galea from Reservoir took the same approach after completing renovations to their outdoor space. As they designed their dream outdoor kitchen, they made sure there was space for both a BBQ and a Jalando pizza oven. The result is a practical, stylish entertaining area that gives them complete flexibility when cooking for family and guests.
The Best of Both Worlds
Having both appliances also allows you to cater for different occasions.
  • Hosting a pizza night? Fire up the pizza oven while using the BBQ to cook appetisers or grilled vegetables.
  • Cooking a Sunday lunch? Roast meat in the pizza oven while the BBQ prepares seafood or vegetables.
  • Celebrating with family? Multiple cooking zones mean less waiting and more time enjoying everyone’s company.
Planning Your Outdoor Kitchen?
If you’re currently designing an outdoor kitchen, don’t assume it’s an either-or decision. With the right layout and planning, a BBQ and a wood-fired pizza oven can work perfectly together, giving you endless cooking possibilities all year round. Another one of our customers, Ian Trend from Ocean Grove, worked with his son Ben, a Landscape Designer, to create the perfect outdoor kitchen set up which was aesthetically pleasing but also practical.
At Jalando Pizza Ovens, we’ve helped hundreds of customers choose a pizza oven that suits their space. Whether you’re building a brand-new entertaining area or upgrading an existing patio, we’d love to help you find the right pizza oven to complement your BBQ.
