How Two Mates Built a Slice of Tradition with Jalando Pizza Oven

When two lifelong friends with Italian heritage decided to embrace their roots, it wasn’t through travel or ancestry tests—it was through fire, food, and a shared love of bringing people together. Anthony and Adrian, mates with a passion for good food and great company, both bought the JA70 Crema from Jalando Pizza Ovens—and it’s turned into something more than just a backyard appliance.

For Anthony the first of the pair to make the purchase, the pizza oven now lives at his family holiday house on the Mornington Peninsula. “I’m the main user of the oven, and we really wanted it to create moments with family and friends—food, drinks, and lots of laughs,” he says. With help from his best mate, a bricklayer, and another who’s a concreter, the oven was built over a couple of weekends. “We’ve already cooked pizza, bread, and roast meats—and the accessories made it really easy to get started.”

Adrian, inspired by Anthony’s new oven, has created a dedicated alfresco and BBQ area at his home, and couldn’t agree more. “Being Italian, a pizza oven is a must-have. There’s something about cooking over open flames—it’s just in our blood,” he says with pride. While pizza is the go-to, Adrian isn’t afraid to get creative. “I love experimenting with different roasts, ribs, wings—you name it. The results are always amazing.” His must-have tools? “The pizza peel—can’t do without it—and the temperature gun, it’s essential for regulating the heat.”

Both agree, that the oven is fantastic. A purchase they’re more than happy with and love the heat retention of a traditional refractory cement oven, where the heat lasts all weekend.

What started as a simple purchase has become a way to stay connected to their heritage, to each other, and to the people they care about most. The shared love of food and the tradition of wood-fired cooking has brought new meaning to weekends, holidays, and family get-togethers.
